My EdTech Vision
My ideal learning environment would be designed for middle school students interested in exploring the rich world of literature through augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies. My overarching goals for content in the cognitive domain would be to help students develop a deep understanding of literary concepts, themes, and genres, as well as the skills to critically analyze and appreciate diverse texts. In the social-emotional learning (SEL) domain, my goal would be to foster creativity, collaboration, and communication skills, empowering students to express their interpretations and connect with literature on a personal level.
To achieve these goals, the ideal learning environment would blend online and face-to-face learning opportunities. Online, students would have access to a variety of resources, including interactive AR/VR simulations, multimedia lectures, and collaborative platforms for discussing and sharing their insights. I would also offer synchronous online sessions where students could engage in real-time discussions with their teachers and peers, as well as asynchronous opportunities for students to explore and reflect on literature at their own pace. In-person, students would benefit from access to immersive AR/VR labs where they could experience literary settings and characters in new and engaging ways, along with small-group and individual learning spaces for focused study and collaboration.
This vision for my ideal learning environment aligns with the National Educational Technology Plan (U.S. Department of Education, 2016), which emphasizes the importance of using technology to create personalized and interactive learning experiences that foster student engagement and achievement. It also aligns with professional standards such as the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE, 2016) and the American Library Association's (ALA) Standards for the 21st-Century Learner, which advocate for the use of technology to support and enhance literacy education. Finally, my vision is grounded in relevant learning theories, including constructivism and social constructivism (Kanselaar, 2002), which emphasize the importance of active learning and collaboration in the learning process. By integrating AR/VR technologies into literature education, I aim to create an innovative and engaging learning environment that inspires a lifelong love of reading and critical thinking.
