My Rationale
As an instructional designer, I am excited to incorporate gamification into an eLearning course to increase engagement and motivation for learners. By using the ADDIE model, I will ensure that the course is designed, developed, and implemented with a clear focus on learning objectives and user engagement. According to research, (Kapp, 2012) gamification can lead to an increase in engagement and motivation, leading to better retention and transfer of knowledge.
In the Analysis phase, I will examine the course content and identify key concepts and objectives, as well as opportunities for game-based activities that align with the learning objectives. By closely aligning the game-based activities with the learning objectives, I aim to improve the retention and transfer of knowledge. Research (Gee, 2003) has shown that game-based learning can improve problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity. In the Design phase, I will create a visually appealing interface that guides learners through the game-based activities and incorporate opportunities for learners to collaborate and compete with each other. In the Development phase, I will ensure that the course is developed with a responsive design, to ensure that it can be accessed on multiple devices. In the Implementation phase, I will pilot-test the course with a small group of learners to ensure that it is functioning correctly and effectively before making it available to a larger group of learners. I will also provide appropriate training and support to the learners. Finally, in the Evaluation phase, I will use a variety of methods, such as surveys, interviews, and assessments, to determine the effectiveness of the course in achieving the learning objectives. Based on the evaluation results, I will revise and improve the course as necessary.
